Five Things Friday

1.I’m currently designing two full service projects in the hard finish phase that couldn’t be more opposite (which I love)… One is our most minimal project to date, the other is a mix of European and traditional design styles. See if you can tell which pictures go with what project ;) Here’s some inspiration…

2. I’ve shared on here this past month about how I’ve been wanting to change some of my life rhythms. With that, I’ve been researching consumption, and how over consumption of “stuff” brings about anxiety, stress, and only wanting more. This has hit me (and Ayms) hard… The reality that we are in a business and market that is mainly seen as “consumption-minded”, is not how we want to be seen or known for. You may have noticed our shift in only sharing quality, ethically made, fair-trade clothing items, and sharing some healthier eating habits… BUT WHAT ABOUT HOME DECOR ITEMS. You guys, this is me being real honest and vulnerable with you… I didn’t want to look into my own industry. I was scared, I was afraid at what I might find. Aymee and I had an appointment in Portland Wednesday night, and spent the entire drive home brainstorming our mission, our purpose, and the WHY behind what we do. We truly believe in beautiful spaces, and that they have the power to transform lives for the better. BUT, what about product. What about where it comes from? How it’s made? The amount of it? The quality of it? Well, we are digging deep. We are going head first, and researching ALL of it. I sent our team a list of 40+ amazing brands and companies that sell fair-trade/ethically made items. Quality goods. In everything… We want total transparency, and if we are putting something in someones home, we want to be knowledgable about those products and where they come from. We want every item to serve a purpose (even if it’s just for looking beautiful on a shelf, that’s a purpose in our minds). We are not perfect, we don’t know all the things, but we are making the shift and the radical transition, and putting it on the internet so others can be aware and join in. Well made, quality pieces aren’t necessarily “cheap” (which they shouldn’t be, if someone is making them with their hands), and will last for years to come. We want to be a company that leads with love, and not greed. A company that leads with honesty and transparency, and not a company that continues to buy product with a blind eye and ignorance. That was A LOT to say, but its been really heavy on my heart (and Ayms), and we are excited to move forward in this. Anyone else?

3. With that, here are some of my favorite items I’ve ran across in the past 24 hours that I can’t wait to put in someones home (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

4. Ready for another Aymee recipe? Yeah, me too!

How about this delicious afternoon vegan snack? Click here for the recipe.

5. We leave for Vegas on Sunday to go to market! Here are some essentials in my bag for lots of walking/note taking/and creative overload… Can’t wait! (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).

Have a great weekend!
