L&D x Huey

Objet d’art

The Huey team and I have worked together for over a year and a half to ensure sustainability and localism were the foundation for this collaboration. Each piece is entirely hand-crafted by artisans from brownsmiths to seamstresses. This lighting collection stems from a mutual desire to create modern-day antique fixtures with designer-worthy materiality for any style dwelling. In the early stages of the design process, the quality of materials held the utmost significance. To me, there is nothing like the illuminating glow, bespoke versatility, and timeless patina of brass and linen…Therefore we explored endless innovative designs to bring nine one-of-a-kind sconces, lamps, and pendants to your front door. Whether you are a collector or simply just design-obsessed, these functional sculptures will transform your space and give it our signature new-age/old-world flair. We invite you to experiment and tell a story within your own project’s framework. xx Molly, Principal Designer at Light and Dwell

This partnership could not have been more organic. I would source Huey here and there for past projects and grew to love supporting their big ethos and small maker craftsmanship. Over a year ago, Brett and I connected about a product collaboration and I started explaining the lights I am constantly searching for that I can never find at an attainable price point. From natural brass, tapered linen shades, and the signature wave detail, we got giddy talking about the “what-ifs” right away. The conversation and collaboration became an alchemy. From design inspiration sparking within 24 hours to our shoot location being at an Expert client’s home in Southern California!

The Posey Sconce

linen or pleated shade

The first design of the collection and a fan favorite…The Posy Sconce is reflective of the entire line: neutral palette, unlacquered brass, old-age influence, traditional ball finial detail, floral/land inspiration, and our signature wave detail. This light resembles the perfect juxtaposition of clean lines and soft curvature. It is a “go-anywhere” fixture and is poised to illuminate your walls with its resplendent glow.

The Tulip Sconce

Small or large

Our brass beacon! The Tulip sconce celebrates European culture and warm refinement. Our coppersmith uses one sheet of brass and traditional techniques like soldering and brazing to shape the scalloped arch and cut out details. It is a work of art. The intentional petite and oversized scaling allows for romantic variety and an illuminating statement. We love the dimension and timeless natural patina of materiality used. We see this sconce just about anywhere, but love them in a pair!

The Flora Pendant

linen or pleated shade

Diaphanous at its finest. Who needs a centerpiece when you have the Flora Pendant? Much like a floral arrangement, this fixture is a statement that creates endless conversation. For a textural element, we designed the pleated shade option. Both styles cast a soft illumination and look gorgeous in a dining nook, bedroom, or bath. The brass rod and ball finial detail houses artisanal finesse and suspended miscellany.

Lighting that can go anywhere.

Q&A with Molly Kidd

What was the overall inspiration behind the collection?

Our inspiration for the collection was modern-day antiques with a focus on natural materiality, specifically brass & linen. Our beloved signature wave motif was a north star when designing the collection. We wanted to create something timeless that felt universal for the everyday, but with designer-worthy luxury that suits any style dwelling.

How did experience sourcing vintage lighting for her clients inform the design process?

I mainly purvey vintage lighting for clients (>80%) so I have developed a trained eye for objects d’art. The fixtures that stand out to me always have intricate details, unique shapes, and patina finishes. I really wanted the line to reflect artisanal lighting I would source in the wild, items that tell a warming story. Whether you are a collector or simply just design-obsessed, these works of art will transform your space and give it our new-age/old-world flair.

How did your affinity for Scandinavian lighting design impact the collection?

You can always find “vintage Scandinavian lighting” in my search history. I am constantly sourcing timeless Scandinavian pieces because of their bespoke versatility, curvature, high quality mediums, and illuminating glow. The country’s craft was a big muse for this collection, especially when you examine the excellence in person– it gives a whole new meaning to heirloom quality.

What are the names of all the pieces in the collection? Please share all product information including description, price point, and number of SKUs

When naming the collection, I referred to what I know best, my design cadence. The initial inspiration for an L&D dwelling begins with a found floral arrangement which is an ode to my florist background. Naming the fixtures after flowers I was inspired by or that reminded me of the pieces felt like the perfect personal nod. It is a testament to pouring my heart and soul into this collection and always taking cues from the land.

What are some of the pieces in the collection you’re most excited about and why?

Honestly, I can’t choose! I'm obsessed with all of them. Each light is different, but cohesive and work well with each other. A few are going into my house and I love watching them get installed! The Posy, Iris, and Tulip are all in my personal dwelling! The Rosie and Willow table and floor lamps are so malleable and adorn any corner or piece of furniture! The lamps are perfect for quaint cottages or rented spaces too because they do not need to be hardwired and give the same effect as a statement sconces/pendants.

How does this collection differ from what’s already on the market?

Our collection differs because it offers one-of-a-kind fixtures at a real-life price. Each piece’s artful form is authentic to vintage designs that are typically thousands of dollars. They feel fresh and beautiful with intentional details made by extremely curated makers and with materials sourced and produced by Huey.

How does the collection reflect the Light and Dwell aesthetic?

The line reflects our aesthetic because I took notes right out of our project’s musts: neutral palette, unlacquered brass, old-age culture, floral/land inspiration, and our signature wave detail. Whether you are looking at one piece of the collection or it as a whole, every light resembles a juxtaposition of clean lines and soft curvature.
