A Round Top Retreat: Winter Edition
We had the absolute best time at one of our favorite places on the planet. If you know, you know. (And if you don’t—consider this your invitation and your mini guide!).
There’s just something about that Texas sky. The “yes ma’ams,” the hats, bandanas, and vintage denim. Oh, and did I mention boots? The Longhorns grazing across the rolling hills—honestly, I can’t get enough of it. Not even joking when I say I’ve been low-key trying to find a reason to move here ever since my first visit.
Normally, our crew heads to Round Top for the Spring and Fall Shows, but we made room for a quick Winter Show trip this year. The sun was shining, the air was crisp, and we had the best time visiting our favorite vendors, curating one-of-a-kind pieces for clients, and collecting treasures to stash at the warehouse. The slower pace, curated selection, and relaxed vibe made for the dreamiest shopping experience. We left feeling inspired and refreshed.
Here’s a quick look at our trip…
Logistics
Fly into Austin, and first stop: Terry Black’s BBQ. Honestly, I’m not sure how to describe it—just know that several pounds of meat might be involved.
Then head to Central Market for the essentials: coffee (for everyone), half and half (for Katie), and obscure candies (for Aymee).
Stay
We’ve stayed everywhere over the years—from Airbnbs in Brenham to Fayetteville to Round Top. Be sure to book accommodations early! If you’re looking for a hotel experience, try Hotel Lulu’s or The Frenchie for a lovely stay.
Eat
La Petite Dame for French wine and cocktails in the cutest venue you’ve ever seen.
Y Comida offers a prix fixe at Bader Ranch that’s consistently the best food in town (definitely book a reservation early!).
Coffee and breakfast tacos at Round Top Coffee—and trust me, try not to drink the salsa. It’s that good.
Prost for wine and pizza al fresco.
Lulu’s for, well, everything. The vibe is amazing.
Royers for shared tables and the best comfort food in town.
Shop
I’ve given this advice before and I stand by it: Start at one end of town and drive down Hwy 237 to the other, stopping at any place that catches your eye. But here are some of our absolute favorites:
@marburger (buy tickets! See all the curated vintage, and maybe spot a design celeb or two)
@markethillroundtop
@bluehillsatroundtop (this one just keeps growing and growing—so much to see!)
@jardindefrancetx
@box_road
@baderranchatroundtop
