Cotswolds Countryhouse: Behind Closed Doors Pt. VII
From initially walking through the house and creating a design vision to watching things come together in the execution phase, Cotswolds has been pure magic. This month I am so excited to share exterior details, chat tile (limestone specifically), and get into the thick of my kitchen and dining room updates..
exterior paint, front door & lanterns
The exterior is finally painted and just as I imagined it has truly transformed the look of our home. I went with a creamy warm white, Dove White by Benjamin Moore. It ended up working out perfectly with the windows too which were not a custom white. Our new front door was also installed this past month; I have always wanted an arched one and it added the instant character and charm that I was hoping for. I will be painting the exterior of it Broccoli Brown by Farrow & Ball and the interior Swiss Coffee to match the plaster walls inside. And lastly, my Ralph Lauren lanterns have arrived and will be installed on the front of the house soon; they have a really nice age to them. With all of the recent updates my vision of a cottage in Cotswolds is coming to life. Every detail matters.
tile updates
As I’ve mentioned in previous updates I have partnered with Zia tile for all of my tile needs throughout our home. I am using their limestone in all of the bathrooms as well as in the entry. I went with a classic zellige (natural cream) in two of the showers and then in the primary bathroom shower I will be doing a plaster finish on the shower walls (which I’ve been dying to do)!
I had so many questions on tile and the fact that I am not grouting when I shared my recent updates over on our Instagram stories. Yes, limestone is a natural material that is quite porous but it’s a material that’s meant to be lived in. It is used all over Europe and Australia and is great for both indoor and outdoor use. I prefer the look of no grout because I’m not crazy about the contrast that comes with it. However I will be spacing them as tight as possible to avoid any major dust collection; even in doing so they will most certainly get dirty and not look perfect but that is part of the charm and beauty of this particular look. I don’t want my house to feel shiny and new, I want it to feel lived in and collected. This look brings part of that charm!
kitchen & dining room
The dining room and cabinets have been painted! I went with my absolute favorite color, Broccoli Brown by Farrow and Ball, and I could not be more excited with how they turned out. I am especially excited about the plate rack! Some other fun updates include the recently installed countertops which are a classic honed carara marble, and the backsplash will be the same.
My island is another well thought through design element in the space. It was made by the same craftsman who does all of our custom in house furniture for both clients and our shop. I had it stained a beautiful chocolate brown color, it is actually the same stain we use for our custom furniture line. I absolutely love working with local artists and makers whenever possible!
