East Coast Digest
New York City, Inness, Boston, Cape Cod Travel Guide
Welcome to our East Coast Digest! I recently took a trip to the “New England” side of the country and let me tell you, I grabbed hold of so much new-found inspiration. New York’s dense and versatile culture made me into a, dare I say…city girl. That didn’t last for long because the country girl came right back out when we went to Inness (que jaw drop). From the juxtaposition of old-age museums and world-class entertainment to old-school architecture and new-school street wear to ethnic cuisine and ma + pop bakeries, the fast paced scene is full of our favorite new spots, plus all of the old classics we will always cherish.
New York City
Where to stay
For the city that never sleeps, where you lay your head at night matters. The Ludlow Hotel is in the Lower East Side, which is a great central location. You can walk everywhere, or take the Subway to get somewhere quickly on the other side of the city.
Where to eat
Looking for a European atmosphere with its own espresso café? Leon Dore features a curated menu with an assortment of greek pastries and grocery items. Located inside Roman and Williams Guild in Soho, La Mercerie by Chef Marie-Aude Rose celebrates the delights of everyday French cooking. It’s a must— I was most excited to go there, because we source a lot of RW Guild lighting for our projects. It’s delicious and full of inspiration. Tartine for baked goods. Cervos, for drinks and appetizers. But honestly, you could just eat your way through NYC!
Where to LOOK
Take yourself on a museum crawl, starting at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on the northeastern edge of Central Park! Looks like the Romans had the scallop trend way before we did. You could spend an entire day in Central Park alone, checking out its zoo, carousel, lakes, and ice rink. A number of gardens and meadows make for excellent people-watching and host impromptu musical performances on nice days. Check out the views from the top of the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, or One World Observatory. No, Devol is not a private home, it’s the newly opened showroom of the beloved English kitchen brand, Devol. Soho and Fifth Avenue is the best for shopping. I caught up on all my apothecary needs.
Inness
This property is a thoughtful marriage of Scandinavian-chic and rustic Americana–a cozy and beautiful place you can enjoy year round, not just in summer. Nestled in meadows and surrounded by beauty, their 28 minimalist cabins offer a unique travel experience–the feeling of being in your own home, but with the amenities of a luxury hotel. The Cabins are close enough to not feel isolated, but with just enough distance to feel secluded. We stayed at The Farmhouse, a dutch-inspired experience with insta-worthy vignettes everywhere. Leisure activities are in abundance: play a round of golf, challenge a friend to a tennis match, swim in saltwater pools or hike around the property. Let’s just say we didn’t want to leave!
Boston
Where to stay
We stopped in Boston on our way to Cape Cod! I was struck with tomato-red brick and charming details everywhere. Tatte Bakery stole my heart…Their Morning Buns are literal perfection. It was also a bucket list item seeing the Red Sox at Fenway Park. We must have been their good luck charm because they won!!! On to the next stop…
Cape Cod
Where to stay
House on the Cape was built in 1639 and is one of the oldest residential dwellings on Cape Cod, MA. Imagine yourself in living history as you experience your daily rituals; coffee seated by the pond, meals prepared in a charming kitchen designed for visual and culinary enthusiasts and atmospheric evenings in the living room or sunroom. Enjoy scenic views from every window, heart-warming quirks found in this 381 year old home and comforts of modern luxury. All oozing with New England Charm.
I am your typical “over-packer” but on this trip, I tried to think through everything beforehand. Here are my fashion staples that were nice and versatile for different weather conditions and vibes.
