Our September Woman in Business is Heather Taylor of Heather Taylor Home
Based in: los angeles, california
Established: 2013
Heather Taylor Home is a line of home goods and textiles that celebrates life’s greatest moments. From tablecloths at a 1st birthday party to napkins at a 50th, HTH creates timeless classics that never go out of style. Heather Taylor’s signature handcrafted linens are inspired by world travels and eclectic entertaining with a nostalgic juxtaposition of color and pattern.
What made you want to start Heather Taylor Home?
I love entertaining and setting a beautiful table but I couldn’t find linens I loved. At the time I had learned to weave and found myself inspired by the craft. This was my initial inspiration for the line.
What was your first HTH product? The one that started it all…
I launched our website in 2013 with a small collection of runners, napkins and placemats in 3 simple designs. Everything was hand -embroidered in India on linen.
What is your approach to making bold choices and why is that important to your design philosophy?
I love combining colors and patterns that play off each other. We do a lot of layering scales-for example combining a large gingham with a mini one and two unexpected but complimentary colors.
“I'm always designing with the idea of creating memories or the feeling of home.”
Walk us through a day-in-the-life. What does your everyday look like?
Wake up around 6AM where I get a head start on the day - emails, making breakfast and lunch for my girls, usually with a podcast playing in the background. I take my girls to school and head into my office in Westwood where I work closely with our HTH team. At some point I pick up an iced almond milk latte. After work I get to hang with my girls - we usually eat an early dinner together as a family and play games or read. After they go to bed we watch a show and collapse.
What does color mean to you?
Color should be fresh, inspiring, fun and invigorating.
How does your family influence your designs or “heirloom-like” quality?
I'm always designing with the idea of creating memories or the feeling of home.
What or who are you most-inspired by?
My daughters.
What is your favorite Light and Dwell space?
I love this cozy Fall wallpaper moment.
